About Beacon For Life

Beacon for Life is a non-profit organization that offers hope and serves to assist individuals with addiction, depression and other mental disorders in finding appropriate treatment options. BFL provides additional support through financial guidance and need-based assistance.

We provide comprehensive support for individuals seeking freedom from alcohol and drugs, offering tailored programs that address the root causes of addiction. Whether you are dealing with addiction or problems with mental health, we are here to support you.

Monte Maberry

Founder

Monte has been actively involved in helping individuals with mental health issues as well as the full gambit of addictions for the past four years. As a person who is a recovering alcoholic and one that
suffered mental issues at one time in his life, he has a heartfelt desire to step in and assist on these issues with people who need help – especially individuals that require inpatient rehab to get the help they need. He is one of the founders of Beacon for Life and is very passionate about the help Beacon for Life provides people.

His hobbies include fishing, snowmobiling, and hunting. He is blessed with 7 daughters and 17 grandchildren which are his treasures in life. Monte lost his wife Connie to cancer in 2015 but carries on her passion for Jesus.

Marv Tjoelker

Marv is a partner and Chairman of the Board in the accounting firm Larson Gross PLLC and has been with the firm since 1983.  He has a CPA and CFP designation. He enjoys serving clients, particularly in financial and strategic planning.  Marv has served on the Board of Directors of a number of non-profit organizations including the Northwest Washington Fair, Lynden Christian Schools, Whatcom Business Alliance, and Kidstown International.  He is also a past president of Mt Baker Rotary.

Marv has been married to his high school sweetheart Linda for over 42 years.  They have 3 married children and are blessed with 5 grandchildren. Marv and Linda enjoy their family hobby farm and their horse and snow skiing hobbies. They help lead a cowboy church ministry at the various horse competitions that they compete in throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Marv is excited to serve on the Board of Directors for Beacon For Life.  He firmly believes that we are all humble beneficiaries of God’s love and grace and called to extend that love and grace to those around us.  Marv’s life was significantly impacted by a tragic vehicle accident during his teenage years.  He greatly benefitted from the help of others during this challenging period in his life.  He is grateful that Beacon For Life can provide hope to a person at a time when life can seem hopeless.

Don Fisher

Don was born August 10, 1952, in Toppenish Washington then growing up in the Bellevue area. He studied Building Construction at both Washington State University and the University of Washington. He worked in the building industry from 1970 until moving to Whatcom County in 1984 when he owned and operated Lynden Dairy Queen for 19 years. In 1996 he helped develop and open Lynden Manor, a 107 unit Assisted Living facility in Lynden, which he is currently the General Manager and majority owner of.

Don has served on many boards. For several years he served on the Lynden Chamber of Commerce, two years he served as co-president. He has been a member of Mount Baker Rotary Club since 1986 and served as President in 1990-1991. Don worked on the Vision 2020 committee for the City of Lynden and helped develop the Design Review Board, which he chaired for several years. He was also on the board and served as Chairman of the Alzheimer Society of Washington and received the Ken King Community Award in 2012. On a personal note, Don has been married to his wife Karen for 42 years, having three daughters, all married and giving him seven grandchildren.

Will Johnson

Will Johnson is the managing member of the Bellingham office of Betts Austin Johnson, PLLC. Will received his Master of Taxation degree from University of Florida School of Law, law degree from Gonzaga University and his Bachelor degree in Political Science from Western Washington University. His practice focuses on estate planning and business succession strategies for individuals, families and business owners. Will is excited that Beacon For Life is able to provide resources and help to persons seeking treatment for addictions and depression.

Vonda VanderYacht

Learn More About Vonda

Born and raised in Lynden, Vonda is married and has three beautiful children. She enjoys an active lifestyle and has been blessed to have run the Boston Marathon twice as well as many other races throughout the Pacific Northwest. Vonda is a Physical Therapist Assistant and has served others in this rewarding job for 25 years.

Vonda completed rehabilitation for alcohol abuse in 2008 and has since then worked to maintain her sobriety while helping others discover and maintain their own. She became interested in serving on the BFL board after learning of its mission to help individuals and their families who are struggling with addiction. Ultimately, Vonda wants to help others get the support they need while reducing the stigma often associated with alcoholism.
